Enrollment Information
The 2011 Spring Session begins on January 7 and ends with the Spring Concert on May 6.
Spring Session registration and placement begins on Saturday, December 10 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Students please bring instrument and plan to play a prepared piece and sightread for the KCYJ instructors. The KCYJ staff will place each student into one of four bands. Band placements will be posted on the Website. Parents will be expected to fill out and sign the KCYJ Fall enrollment form and make the tuition payment. NEW FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER – STUDENTS WHO PLAN TO AUDITION FOR THE RENO BAND PLEASE SEE AUDITION REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW:
Saxophones: 1. Play the first four notes of each major scale (Tetrachords). 2. Sight reading – 8 to 16 measures of a very difficult line. 3. OPTIONAL: Prepared piece or improvisation over F Concert blues.
Trumpets: 1. Chromatic scales from low F# to highest note playable. 2. Any major scale on command up to 4 sharps or flats. 3. An excerpt from a prepared jazz piece. 4. Improvisation on F (concert) blues. Instructor will provide play-a-long cd. 5. Sight reading.
Trombones: 1. Any major scale. 2. Sight reading. 3. Improvisation on f (concert) blues.
Piano, Guitar and Bass: 1. A prepared piece of choice. 2. Sight reading. 3. Improvisation over F blues.
Drum Set: 1. Be prepared to play the following styles: Swing, Latin and Fund/Rock. 2. A prepared piece of choice. 3. Sight read. 4. Trade 4’s.
Tuition fees range from $245 to $265 per semester and depend on band placement. A payment of at least $100 is due at the time of enrollment with the balance due at the first rehearsal. Combo and other classes are an additional $165 per semester. Payment plans and some scholarship assistance are available. Fees are waived for students with parents employed at MCC-Penn Valley.
In addition to band/combo tuitions, all students are required to provide $100 in Student Business Sponsorships each semester. Please visit the sponsorship page for detailed information and forms.
